Great holiday spots where you can windfoil

February 7, 2019

Taking the family to a warm destination where sunshine-filled days combine with epic beaches and amazing seaside hotels, is a dream come true. And it’s even better if the wind is reliable and you can go windsurfing every day!

Paradise like this is hard to find, and it’s even trickier to find somewhere that is perfectly set up for windfoiling with an amazing centre on hand, stocking the latest equipment and offering lessons on how to start windfoiling or improve your skills.

Thankfully, however, there are a few places that combine the all this, and more. Our friends at Planet Windsurf Holidays has the scoop on the best holiday spots where you can windfoil:

Bonaire, Caribbean

The Caribeean island of Bonaire in the Dutch Antilles is one of the best and easiest destinations in the world to windsurf! A huge flat water lagoon provides a haven for speed blasting, and of course, foiling.

The island also gets great wind almost all year round with an average wind speed of 20 knots. The Dunkerbeck Pro Center at the Sorobon Beach Resort was recently opened by windsurfing greats Bjorn Dunkerbeck and Philippe Bru and offers great equipment to rent including top-quality Starboard foils!

The teachers are professionals and offer a wide range of courses, from beginners all the way through to advanced lessons.

Dakhla, Morocco

Dakhla’s beautiful blue lagoon offers reliable wind all year round and the perfectly flat water is ideal for foiling, especially for beginners and improvers. At Ocean Vagabond you will find a windsurfer-centric hotel with a great centre right on site and bungalows located directly on the water.

There is also a great bar and restaurant found at the property for when you need a break! Dakhla Lagoon will be fully equipped with windsurf foiling equipment as of April/May onwards with the minimum level for windsurf-foil-training being able to windsurfing in footstraps with a harness and you must have good planning skills.

Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

Costa Calma on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands is a great short-haul destination for anyone travelling from the UK or Europe. At Costa Calma you will find amazing flat water, perfect for clean, flat water blasting and foiling the whole year around.

A windsurf holiday here is perfectly suited for anyone that just wants to eat, sleep and dream windsurfing! Windfoiling is a true revolution in the sport and Fuerteventura is the perfect destination for practicing your skills. Windfoiling at full-speed in 10 knot conditions is possible at Costa Calma.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dubai offers a unique experience in the world of windfoiling. Blast off from the man-made palm island, leaving behind a backdrop of exotic villas, 5 star hotels and a bustling city in the middle of the dessert. Dubai is one of only a handful of places in the world with a dedicated foiling centre that caters to people of all levels.

With an average wind speed of between eight and ten knots in the winter months, an average daytime temperature of 25°C and flat protected waters, there is really no better place to practice your foiling skills.

The centre in Dubai stocks the very best and latest gear from Starboard windsurfing and Severne sails and also offers access to five-star facilities with an infinity pool, private beach and world-renowned spa right on site.
